simple, yet spectacular

When approaching a new indie project, it's important to keep your scope to a minimum, ie make small games.

But that doesn't mean the game should be small in spirit or potential, instead it should be focused on what makes it special.

You should make it simple, yet spectacular.

Every project ought to be built with the ambition that is can be an instant classic, a Perennial Seller, otherwise it's not worth the time and trouble.

It's not to say that every game will be spectacular, in fact, most ideas will fall flat on your face after you explore them a bit, and that is fine.
